CT Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Draft Greenhouse Gas Inventory for Public Comment (published December 2009)

Please follow this link to the draft 2009 Connecticut Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Update, which is posted on the CT DEP website as required by section 3(a) of Public Act 08-98, An Act Concerning Connecticut Global Warming Solutions.  Public comments are being accepted until 4 P.M. on January 7, 2010.

Connecticut Greenhouse Gas Inventory: 1990 - 2001 (published July 2006)

Connecticut Greenhouse Gas Inventory: 1990 - 2001 - This inventory was compiled in accordance with Section 22a-200b(f) of the CT General Statutes, which requires an update of the statewide greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory every three years beginning July 2006. The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection compiled this inventory using output from the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA’s) GHG Inventory Tool.

DEP compiled this comprehensive inventory of GHGs in Connecticut using a “top down” methodology.  The data is based on the output from the May 2006 version of EPA’s GHG Inventory Tool. This tool relies upon macro-scale aggregate data from the transportation, energy, agriculture, waste storage and treatment, and industrial sectors from sources such as the United States Department of Energy (US DOE), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the EPA. Estimated GHG emissions are calculated based on summary data for GHG sources including, but not limited to, fossil fuel consumption, waste storage, and livestock population.

This GHG inventory includes one additional year of data beyond the previously compiled inventory.  The limited nature of the update is due to the unavailability of the energy sector data required by the EPA GHG Inventory Tool.  If the US DOE releases the necessary energy sector data for 2002 and 2003, DEP intends to update its GHG inventory accordingly, prior to the next statutorily-mandated update in July 2009.

Connecticut Greenhouse Gas Inventory: 1990 - 2000 (published August 2003)

Connecticut Greenhouse Gas Inventory: 1990 - 2000 - This inventory document provides a detailed accounting of Connecticut's GHG emissions for the years 1990 through 2000. The inventory covers all the emissions of the six major GHGs covered in national inventories: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N20), hydroflourocarbon (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulfur hexaflouride (SF6). The inventory of Connecticut greenhouse gas emissions for the years 1990 through 2000 was produced by Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, with support from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
